Toys For Tots 2017 Campaign

Toys for Tots – A Proud History

In 1947 Major Bill Hendricks of the Unites States Marine Corps Reserves founded Toys for Tots, with the mission of collecting new, unwrapped toys, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community. The first toy ever collected for Toys For Tots was a handmade doll. In that first year, 5,000 toys were collected for the underprivileged children of Los Angeles, California. In 1995, the Secretary of Defense approved Toys for Tots as an official activity of the United States Marine Corps and an official mission of the Marine Corps Reserve.

Did you know that the famous train logo was designed by none other than Walt Disney? Some other famous celebrities have endorsed the Toys For Tots program over the years, including: John Wayne, Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Doris Day, Johnny Carson, Andy Griffith, Clint Eastwood, Tim Allen, Nancy Reagan and Barbara Bush…just to name a few. Toys for Tots continues to be one of the most recognizable charities in the country and has been accredited by BBB Wise Giving Alliance.
